Recommended Electric Guitars
Having a guitar at home IS A MUST.
Amazon IS NOT the best place to buy a guitar. When buying a guitar, you may wonder…
- Is this guitar left or right-handed?
- Am I comfortable holding this guitar?
- Does it sound good?
This may mean visiting a local music store or Guitar Center would be best for your family.
The main models of electrics built today are based on these four 1950s-style guitars.
- Fender Telecaster
- Fender Stratocaster
- Gibson Les Paul
- Gibson ES-335 (ES-339)(L5)
Most companies model guitars after these four. Some cheaper companies sell guitars in the $150-$300 range.
(Beware of quality)
Gibson and Fender have cheaper alternatives to their classics in the $300-$600 range
- Fender Squiers
- Gibson Epiphones
Higher-end guitars can exceed $700. If you are interested, you can contact us and ask about guitars.
Buying used guitars is perfectly fine. Guitar Center has an inventory of pre-owned guitars you can always view. Marketplace and an app called Reverb have used equipment. Just be wary of buying used items online.
An amp will be needed for lessons.
Please avoid starter amps under $100.
We use a small Boss amp that is $300
Boss may even have cheaper amps! Please read reviews.
We don’t always use what our favorite guitarists use. The sounds created are from their mind, touch, and dedication to their instrument.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. We have a collection of guitars, and most guitars previously mentioned are available to view if you would prefer. We have also helped families with buying guitars by meeting them at a music store to help them select what works best for their needs.

Our current Amazon recommendations
- Cheapest option: This is fantastic. Buying a guitar with a good sound and an electric pickup from a trusted brand under $150 is a steal.
- Another option: As the price increases, sound quality should increase, durability should be greater, appearance may improve, and the guitar should be comfortable to play. This guitar has all of the above.
Both of our recommendations come between $150 and $500. If you are interested in a guitar of better quality, feel free to reach out.

Guitar Accessories
When you purchase a guitar, some accessories are not included, but are crucial for playing.
Picks will sometimes be used. Value packs with different thicknesses are very handy!
Please ask the instructor if a capo will be needed. If so, this one works well!
Because of the difference in guitars, we do not have a link to one set of strings. You can look up the type of guitar you have and ask for strings.
We have a suggestion for a strap, but we encourage you to look online for one that matches the style of whoever is taking lessons. There are a lot of really cool options!
Depending on your guitar, you may not need a tuner. There are also apps on your phone for tuning!
If you would like your guitar to sit up, you will need a stand. You can also mount it using a wall stand!
If you would like your sheet music to sit up, you will need a stand. You cannot mount sheet music on a wall!
You may need a case. This depends on the guitar you buy.
